Be Active!

Tree climbing with Tree Climbers International on Lake Horton
It’s hard to beat being outdoors, whether it’s running, biking, camping, hiking, etc. So here are a few websites for events and activities around town in case you ever find yourself at a loss for what to do on the weekends here in the south! (in no particular order…)
- Stump Jump 50K – This race was my first ultra-marathon – a trail race winding through the forests above Chattanooga. Read my review of the race!
- Tree Climbers International (wonderful people, amazing trees, and a one-of a kind experience – one of these days, I will spend the night high in a tree)
- ING Georgia Marathon (2010 will be the fourth year for this great running tour of intown Atlanta – and I’m all signed-up!)
- Run Georgia (a comprehensive calendar of all those smaller races that go on around the southeast that can sometimes be hard to find online)
- WalkJogRun (map and save your routes)
- Team in Training (a fabulous organization that is there every step of the way to help you accomplish a half-marathon, marathon, or triathlon – all while raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society)
- Dirty Spokes Productions (including the Xterra Trail Running series)
- Good Run Productions (I hope to be out there for the Granite Grinder 1/2 marathon trail race next year!)
- REI’s local Atlanta calendar of events
- Atlanta Outdoors Club (a very active organization in Atlanta that coordinates hiking, backpacking, caving, and other adventure trips around the southeast – many of them surprisingly close to home)
- Atlanta Track Club (this Atlanta institution has brought you running events for years and is known for the Peachtree Road Race and Thanksgiving Day half and full marathons)
- Bicycle South (a local bike repair shop – and more – with tips on safe riding, local bike rides, advocacy, etc.)
- Big Peach Running Company (this local running & equipment store also sponsors races, group runs, trail runs, and more – check out their site!)
- SweetH20 50K race in Sweetwater Creek State Park near Austell, GA (read about my trail run in Sweetwater here)
- Get Guts (Georgia’s own ultra-marathon and trail running club)
